How to set your status message in Teams
- Open Teams and choose your profile picture near the top of the window.
- Choose “Set status message” and paste your chosen text.
- Enable “Show when people message me” if you want the note shown when someone messages or mentions you.
- Choose when the message should clear, then select Done.
Setting the message on your phone
In the Teams mobile app, open your profile picture and choose Set status message. Paste the note, choose whether to show it when people message you, set its clearing time, and save with Done. Microsoft documents the desktop and mobile options in the instructions above.
After saving, reopen the status editor to check the wording. If you use several work accounts, make sure you edited the account your colleagues contact. A status about a temporary focus block should expire when that block ends.
Make the request relevant to your role
“Send more context” can be too vague for someone who does not know your work. A finance colleague might ask for the budget line and approval deadline. A designer might ask for the file, audience, and type of feedback. A support engineer might need the affected environment and a redacted error.
Ask for the two or three details that most often stop you from answering. Avoid turning the status into a long intake form. The goal is to help someone start a useful conversation, including people who are new to the team.
A status message is different from your availability
Teams also has availability states such as Available, Busy, and Do not disturb. A written status explains your preference; it does not itself set those availability states. Use the relevant Teams controls if you also need to change availability.
Keep the wording realistic: “I’ll reply when I can” is often more accurate than promising a response within minutes. If your team needs an urgent escalation route, document it separately and use the agreed process.
Can this website set my Teams status automatically?
No. The No Hello status builder lets you choose and copy text, then paste it into Teams yourself. It does not connect to your Microsoft account. This keeps the flow simple and gives you a chance to review the message before saving.
If the status keeps clearing, check the duration you selected. If people still send a greeting alone, respond kindly and ask for their question. A helpful status is a cue, not a guarantee that everyone has seen it.
